Pat Wick's Top Ten Toon List
I have given this lots of thought. I have this broken down by types of
animated work. They are in no real order.
-
"Feed the Kitty"
This is probably my favorite short cartoon of all time.
It is the first one starring Marc Anthony (the bulldog) and Pussy Foot (the
adorable mostly black kitten). This is the one where he finds and adopts
the kitten but he cannot let his owner know (she warned him not to bring
home any more pets).
-
"One Froggy Evening"
Starring Michigan J. Frog (yes, I knew his name
before he became the mascot for the WB television network). If you haven't
seen it, it wouldn't do any good to describe why I think it is so good.
-
"One Million Box" & "Ali Babba Bunny"
& "Duck Amuck"
I grouped these
together because they are quintessential Daffy. He attempts to get away
with about everything but the main thing that stops him is, well, himself.
Lines like "I wonder if that silly duck will remember that he can fly?.. I
guess not." are pure genius.
-
"Long Haired Hare"
Bugs vs. the Opera singer in a tale that quite
literally brings the house down.
-
Road Runner & Wile E. Coyote
I'm using the same excuse as everyone else -
that they are able to be edited into one long cartoon.
-
"Rabbit Seasoning", "Rabbit Fire", &
"Duck, Rabbit, Duck"
Same with this
set. Daffy attempts to get Bugs shot by Elmer. The quick tempered, slow
witted duck always ends up getting the worst of it.
-
Beauty and the Beast
I would say that this is the best of their lot. The
heroine brings it all on herself, in fact she gets exactly what she is
yearning for. The Beast (hero) is not a prince charming type. You believe
that they fall in love. The villain is a big jerk - I think we all went to
high school with someone like him. Besides how could I not include a movie
that has one of my favorite life lessons - "Never attack an enchanted
kitchen"? I mean, duh.
- Anamaniacs
More WB/Spielberg genius. A cartoon show that can be enjoyed
by both kids and adults. Side note - why does Warner Bros. fail at full
length cartoons as much as Disney cannot do shorts? There are some
exceptions, sure, not many though. Just a pondering.
- Luxor Jr. (by Pixar)
This is their first short they did. I think it is
the best computer generated one I have ever seen. The 2 lamps are still
lamps. They do not smile or have eyebrows or change shape to convey the
story. For those that have never seen it go to Toy Story 2
, it is playing
there. (Heck how can you fill out a top 10 list on this and not see
Toy
Story 2?)
-
Vincent
I don't know who did this, sadly I do not have a copy either. It
is about this little boy named Vincent who wants to grow up to be Vincent
Price (narrated by Vincent Price - I believe the last project he did before
he died).
