Wallace and Gromit

With the release of Aardman entertainment's Chicken Run, it's time to recommend the shorts that really made this production company special to begin with. Enjoy the adventures of the eccentric, cheese loving Wallace and his dog Gromit in three great claymation shorts, A Grand Day Out, The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave. Decidedly British in their humor, and stunningly detailed in their animation, these shorts are a real treat. This is supposed to be a video pick, but I had to go with a DVD pick because you have to buy three separate VHS tapes to get all three shorts. If you enjoyed Chicken Run (and you should have), you should get this DVD.

Galaxy Quest

My biggest regret when I put together my list of 1999 favorites is that I didn't include this film. If I was to do the list now, I certainly would. Each time I watch this film, I love it more. It is fantastic. I've watched it several times since I picked up the DVD, with the extra footage and documentary attached as well. Just when you don't think it is going to get any better, you switch over to the Thermian track and listen to it in an alien language! Better than any Star Trek movie since the second one, it is mandatory viewing. (Especially before you head off to a SF convention like CONvergence...) Never give up, Never surrender!
