MISFITS Video Picks for May 16, 2000
Now that Being John Malkovich has been released on video, there's no reason why you shouldn't see it. This film combines the strangeness of David Lynch's Eraserhead with the oddball quirks of The Dark Backward. No matter how much you've heard about what goes on in this film, you can't understand until you experience the weirdness for yourself.
Great performances from John Cusak, Cameron Diaz (Yes, that is Cameron Diaz underneath all that frumpiness!) and, of course, John Malkovich; with arguably the funniest performance going to Charlie Sheen!
Go right out to the video store and "get into" John Malkovich.
This film stars a cast of brilliant comic character actors in one of the
finest mockumentaries ever made. Christopher Guest stars as Corky Sinclair,
a man who can only be described as the worst director in the history of
community theatre. He is joined by Eugene Levy, Parker Posey, and an
absolutely brilliant Catherine O'Hara who all play actors in a town that is
clearly devoid of creative abilities of any type. I don't know how to do
justice to this film with simple words. The cast is great and the script
(mostly improvised by the cast) will have you in stitches if you are
anything but dead. Rent this one - then buy this one. I have watched it
dozens of times and it still makes me laugh.
