Dove Lewerenz's Top Ten Science Fiction and Fantasy Novels
OK, this is in no particular order, I'm just looking at my bookshelves for
the ones I've read multiple times...
Isaac Asimov is a god of course, and the Foundation series was great, but
I'd have to say that I liked the Robot Trilogy=Caves of Steel, Naked Sun,
Robots of Dawn (which was related) better.
Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke
Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut I've lost track of how many times I've
read this one...
since we seem to be doing Sci-Fi and fantasy I gotta throw in The Mists of
Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley...read this mammoth in a weekend cuz I just
couldn't put it down...the prequels were disappointing however.
I feel that Ray Bradbury should be on this list-I love his short stories but
I can't pick just one...I Sing the Body Electric is definitely a
favorite...also A Sound of Thunder (a classic time travel plot)...and then
there's the Martian Chronicles of course...
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy(series) by Douglas Adams
Bio of a Space Tyrant series by Piers Anthony now I'm not raving about Piers
Anthony-the Xanth novels got old real fast, but I just really enjoy this
series.
Have just recently discovered Ursula LeGuin, but so far The Left Hand of
Darkness is my favorite of hers.
A Clockwork Orange-Anthony Burgess ...what can I say, I like these weird
dystopian future ones...
so no one has mentioned David Brin yet-I wonder why? I think I'll finish
this with Earth-another one I couldn't stop reading and a another possible
future for us.
