Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
Was there any doubt? Fantastic, and it grows better the more I think about
it.
Moulin Rouge
I'm listening to the soundtrack as I write this. "El Tango de Roxanne"
ensures that it gets a position on the list without trying. But then
there's a bunch of other numbers as well. It takes some time to get used
to, but it's grown on me more and more.
Amelie
Very sweet and funny. Quirky too.
Ghost World
After two rather romantic movies, we need something a bit more cynical, and
this is it.
Shrek
Monsters, Inc
The two animated computer features are both really good. I give the edge to
Shrek, because I think it's a bit more sophisticated in its storyline
compared to Monsters, Inc, which is a bit more of a children's film. But
it is so close -- and that's the best thing about both of them.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
A faithful enough adaptation of the book to get on the list.
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
There are times that my life feels like a Kevin Smith film, and so while
this movie is for fans only, which means that it's on the lower rungs of the
list, it's still amusing enough to get there.
Vanilla Sky
Any movie that uses both Radiohead and Peter Gabriel in their soundtrack has
an edge for me. There is a lot of the movie that has appeared in other
forums before, but who cares?
A.I: Artificial Intelligence
Controversial? Yes. But it's very well made, and impressive for
simultaneously being a Spielberg film and a Kubrick film -- something I
would have thought impossible.
I didn't sit through enough of "Glitter" for it to qualify as a movie I've
seen.
