Matrix Room party rocks Minicon
Saturday, April 22ndSaturday consisted of microprogramming during the day and our red pill/blue pill party in the evening. We averaged about twenty people at each Matrix inspired panel and the discussion was animated and frequently off topic. First up was Follow the White Rabbit and it explored Alice in Wonderland themes in science fiction and fantasy. Then we moved on to There is no Spoon and discussed alternate reality in movies, comics and literature. Finally, we had Dodge This - a panel devoted to the idea of strong female characters in Science Fiction and fantasy. We would like to thank all of our panelists (listed below) for their participation.
Then things got really wild.
For the evening, Skaht Hansen and Matthew Dahlquist moved in and spun a hot industrial mix while a whole bunch of leather clad, sunglass wearing party goers danced and devoured a great deal of chicken flavored food. We were somewhat surprised to have the entire cast of The Matrix on hand to provide ambiance. For those of you who missed it, here is our cast of characters:
The biggest thank you has to go out to Ishmael Williams who actually consented to shave his head for his role. Some might call this a bit too much of a commitment to the part, but we sure appreciate it anyway. The room was packed from when the music started at about 8:30 until a little bit past 3:00 AM. We got a mention in the Bozo Bus the next morning: Matrix Mutterings "You can live the sort of life that let's you have fun at a convention, or
the sort of life where you do not. One of those lives has a future.....the
other does not"
A ton of people helped out setting up and tearing down and we can only apologize that we don't remember everyone's name. If you helped but don't get a mention here, we can only say we're sorry we missed you, but we really did appreciate your help. Thanks in specific to those people we do remember - Chris Jones (who produced more paperwork than the IRS), Windy Merrill (who assisted with most of the shopping), Tim Wick, Pat Wick, Alex Wick (who didn't help, but he was cute), Perrin Klumpp, Ishmael Williams, TJ Starbuck, Kat Pepmiller, Nathan Favilla, Mindy Laff, Janice Anderson, Katze, Marina Yoder, Dayna Ring, Patrick Ladwig and everyone else who pitched in for even a few minutes. Also, thanks to TJ Starbuck, Kat Pepmiller, Perrin Klumpp, and Richard Caylor for all of the pictures. The party was, by all measures, a smashing success. We are already plotting our party theme for Minicon 36, so we hope to see you again next year!
You can return to our Friday at Minicon. |
