MISFITS
Working Meeting Minutes
Thursday, February 22, 2007
Location - MISFITS Office, St. Paul, MN
In Attendance:
MISFITS Coordinators -
Dave, Matt, Jodie, Thomas, Peter
Guests: Julie
Club Updates
- All the clubs are doing
well.
- Crafty Geek - Jodie
is working on scheduling another meeting to get on the
calendar (so it can be included on the MarsCon flyer.)
- Gaming -
Peter will check with Dave from the Gaming Group to see
where they will meet next.
- Geek Reads -
changing their next meeting to allow for some recovery from
MarsCon.
- Peter will email
club-heads about using Google Groups and sending a regular
status report to MISFITS Coordinators every month without
being prompted. The status report should contain: when the
group met, who hosted (if applicable), how many attendees,
and what was covered/achieved.
Programs
- In the Schools -
Dave gave an update on former CONvergence Guest of Honor
Bridget Landry’s visit to Minneapolis in April. Bridget will
be able to come the weekend of the trivia contest and is
excited about participating. Budget and travel needs around
Bridget’s visit were discussed.
Events
- Writing Contest Update
- Jodie gave an update on the writing contest. All
publications need to be into Chris Jones by June 4th. Dave
can supply Jodie with computer programs for pamphlet
creation if need be. Jodie is having ongoing conversations
with Charlotte and Jody W. Some new changes this time around
– we are trying to discourage class-wide/school-wide entries
(if it is obvious the students were forced to write in for
an assignment), all submissions will now be electronic, and
we will create language to deny entries that don’t meet our
rules and qualifications.
Capital Expenditures
- The group decided that
buying a photo printer should come out of the capital
expenditures budget and not the prom budget. Thomas will
work with Pat to get Masquerade to pay for half the printer
in the long run (for the short term, MISFITS will front the
entire cost.) Dave Benhart will work with Chris Bowlsby to
ensure compatibility with his equipment for Geek Prom and
will purchase the printer through Chris to take advantage of
his store discount.
Yahoo Staff List
Migration
- The group agreed to shut
down the Yahoo mailing list and migrate everyone over to the
general Google group. Matt will send off one last MISFITS
party sign up list and Jodie will lock the group down and
move the remaining members to Google.
Room Party Updates
- MarsCon - Matt is
hosting the party. The group agreed to increase MarsCon’s
budget to $350 and Thomas cut a check to Matt for the full
amount. Matt will turn in receipts and any left over funds
promptly. The group performed an inventory in the office of
party supplies. Matt loaded up the cooler with bowls,
napkins, spoons, and masking tape. Jodie will bring all ‘in
room’ flyers/forms to the room party Friday afternoon,
including trivia contest forms. Matt will go shopping for
cereal, cookies, and milk.
