Working & Board Officer Meeting Minutes
Thursday, April 27, 2006 - 7:00
PM
Location - MISFITS Office, St. Paul, MN
In Attendance:
Officers -
Jodie,
Peter, Matt, Thomas, Erica
Board Members -
Tim, Chris, Windy, Jeremy, Perrin
Guests - Dave B. & Dave K.
Post Mortems
- Oddcon Room Party -
Email was sent to Mike and Alicia but we haven't heard back
from them. Chris attended and said it went well. Did the
taco bar. 13 pounds of taco meat were prepared for Saturday
only. Took two CVG registrations. Repeat next year.
- Minicon Room Party
- It went well. All the volunteers showed up. Ran out of ice
cream at about 11:30 both nights. Lots of compliments on the
lab coats. People would really like to see the logo of
MISFITS on the back. Well staffed. $342.67. Came in 7
dollars under budget.
- Officer Retreat -
Minutes were sent out to put on website. Impressed with
accommodations. Had two full length meetings, plus concom
and pizza party. Recommend we do it again next year.
- Trivia Contest -
Fun time. Theme was incorporated well. Next year: Advertise
at the U and push more for people. Do a mini-promotional
thing at the convention? Have sign up forms at CVG? Really
promote at MarsCon - poster. Bring trophy to Mars Con. Get
more prizes for all participants. Get more teams.
- Omnifest 2006 - 10
people attended. It was a fun event. Movie sold out
quickly. Recommend another similar thing in the future,
perhaps the Body Exhibit?
Club Updates
- Geek Physique /
Diabegeek - Walks started last month. Goal is a
weekly walk and a monthly activity. There have been two
people at every event and last week there were five.
Next week starts with outdoor walks and alternate Mpls
and St. Paul locations each week. Park walk on Saturday
the 20th. Had a roller-skating event in Maplewood. Tim
attended. If there is interest, we will do it again. We
could try a different venue in the future and we could
have a golf outing or a rock climbing activity (vertical
endeavours). Inline skating, roller dome. Information up
on the MISFITS website.
- Book/Movie Club
- Doing well. Lots of attendees at the last meeting.
Next one is May 12th, "Fatherland." George will be
co-head. Set up a google group for the list. Opt in
procedure. Tim will forward Jodie his 'announcement'
email list.
- Geeks Read! -
10 people at the last meeting. Read "Callahan's Touch."
In the future, we will double check that the book is in
print or widely available. Next month is "Wicked" at
Mike Lee's house. It is all set on google groups. Jody
Wurl is looking to attend as a regular person. Alicia is
head and Adam is sub-head.
- Crafty Geek -
Five people at the last meeting (at Crafty Planet).
Stitch and bitch. Group is already on the google group
list. Matt suggested Roseville Public Library meeting
room as an alternative in case Crafty Planet is booked.
- Writers Group -
Again, no updates from Jim. Jodie and Peter attended the
last meeting. At the mini-con party, we had one person
who attended the Writer's Group. Jodie recapped what
happened at the meeting and detailed her conversation
with Jim. There were ten people at the meeting. Jodie
outlined numerous communications challenges.
Budget Update
- Thomas's Report
- Everything is currently been paid for. As of
June 1st we will be at $20,375.10 left in the check
book allotted for various things. Up to 1400 of 6000
for in the schools. OddCon came in 35 under budget.
Officer retreat 30 dollars under. Dave K. needs to
get in his receipts in for Marscon.
- Cashbox from
Trivia Contest - Thomas will go over to the
Wick's house tonight to get the money from the box.
Program
Updates
- GOT
Edutainment - Science Museum event was a
success. Windy is planning a burlesque show
visit sometime before the convention.
Suggestions for future events - Body Exhibit at
science museum. Fringe show would be fun. Snow
tubing. Alpine/waterslides (outdoor - Wild
Mountain - Indoor Grand Rios or Hotel by Mall of
America.) Paint ball / laser tag.
- In the
Schools - Currently divided into two
subgroups (authors and demonstrators.) Dave K.
is taking over from Emily the author's portion.
Erin has been doing a great job on the
demonstration side of things. Someone from St.
Cloud was interested. Raptor center is going to
St. Cloud. Jodie will update the In the Schools
portion of the website with details of our
recent successes, including the number of
children served in the state of MN.
- Writing
Contest - We have 8 entries thus far. Please
tell local people to enter. Tim suggested that
we present the award at opening ceremony. Jodie
needs more money. Reallocated from publications.
Jody Wurl is in charge of judges.
Events Updates
-
Scavenger Hunt - 200 items brainstormed.
Jen Manna is back up if Peter is in WI. Tell

1:30. Start at 11, eat at noon. Broke up at
5:30. Same location. June 10th.
Room Parties
- Any
upcoming conventions? Not that we
want to go to at this time.
-
CONvergence Standing Set Update - We
have labcoats! Jodie went to parties
meeting. Resume takes care of the room
114. Jodie informed Linda. Get a real
sized garbage can. Tension rod and
curtain to block off backroom. Wireless
internet access? Only if we can get it
at regular rate and not business rate.
Dave needs volunteers to help build the
sets.
Other
-
CONvergence Closing Ceremony
Sketch - The officers voted to
participate with a short 5 minute
sketch. Matt will co-ordinate this
