Evil Dead Trilogy a Smash Success

For over a year and a half, MISFITS has been sponsoring classic SF and Fantasy films at the Plaza Maplewood Theater on the third weekend of each month. This acts as a fund raiser for MISFITS, and is done in partnership with Nathan Block, owner of the Plaza Maplewood Theater. The $4 ticket price of MISFITS' Sci-Fi Movie Nights all goes to MISFITS, and the Plaza Maplewood makes its money from the concession sales alone.

Since its inception early last year, Movie Night organizer Perrin Klumpp has booked a slew of fan-favorite films including The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai, The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Princess Bride, and Flash Gordon. The audience has been slowly building, and the series has proven to be a steady money-maker for both MISFITS and the Plaza Maplewood Theater.

Encouraged by this success, plans were made for an ambitious special event: a Halloween-season triple feature of the cult-favorite Evil Dead Trilogy. The entire trilogy would be shown three times on consecutive nights. Ticket prices would be the usual $4 per film or all three films for only $10. This would be the first time all three films had been screened in the Twin Cities in over six years.

Thanks to flyers, newspaper and radio ads, the turnout was great, with Saturday night's shows actually selling out. About 1300 tickets were sold over the three nights, raising about $3000 for MISFITS after expenses. And how did the theater make out..?

"MISFITS people RULE!" exclaimed Nathan Block. "The Evil Dead trilogy was wildly successful far beyond even what I thought we'd be able to pull in and I was optimistic at best. My concession sales were through the roof, I would like to personally thank everyone for buying so much food and supporting the Plaza."

Plans are in the works for another special event for sometime next year. In the meantime, upcoming features of MISFITS' Sci-Fi Movie Night include:

DateMovie
Nov. 17-18 Highlander
Dec. 15-16 Edward Scissorhands
Jan. 19-20 Labyrinth
Feb. 16-17 Forbidden Planet

Thanks to everyone who helps make all the Sci-Fi Movie Night features a great, ongoing success!
