Board of Regents Positions Up for Election
The MISFITS positions up for election in
January of 2008 are listed below - alphabetical by position
title and then by candidate.

Coordinators
Events and Programs
Coordinator:
Oversees all MISFITS events such as Team Trivia Challenge,
Scavenger Hunt, Geek Prom, Cinema Rex Movie Nights, GOT
gatherings as well as the MISFITS annual picnic and ice cream
social. Also oversees the MISFITS In the Schools program and the
MISFITS Writing Contest.
Candidate: Dave Benhart
I've
been involved in MISFITS and CONvergence for several
years now. I think this is long enough to have a good
idea of our goals and directions, but new enough to have
fresh ideas. I'm excited about the transition that the
organization is going through right now and want to help
guide it towards bigger and better things.
As
MISFITS Events Coordinator for the last two years I've
helped organize many successful events and expand our
existing programs. Along with all our volunteers, I have
improved MISFITS visibility in the local fan community
and increased participation in our events. We have also
expanded our programs to better serve our mission of
literacy and community building through fandom. One
example of this was when we brought CONvergence 2006
Guest of Honor and JPL scientist Bridget Landry back to
the Twin Cities to speak at local schools under our "In
The Schools" program.
As a
member of the Board of Regents I've pushed for greater
transparency and accountability to our membership. I
have actively sought out opinions and ways to improve
the entire organization and passed that information
along while maintaining confidentiality. If you ever
have any questions, please feel free to come to me.
Finance Coordinator:
Responsible for corporate insurance, year round budgeting,
balancing the yearly accounts. Appointed to the official title
of 'Treasurer' for corporation purposes. Primarily responsible
for tax and state filing and documenting for our 501(c)3
(not-for-profit) status. Provides support and backup for the
CONvergence Finance Coordinator. Actively seeks out internal
auditing to assure the accuracy of both MISFITS and CONvergence
accounting. Submits reports regularly to the other MISFITS
Coordinators regarding the state of finances, submitting an
official report yearly to the Board of Regents on the state of
the Treasury.
Candidate: Elliott James
Web & Print Publications
Coordinator:
Responsible for updating and maintaining the MISFITS and
Society web sites. Oversees the management of all the club and
organization Google Groups. Creates print material and signage
for MISFITS such as flyers, postcards, bookmarks, the Writing
Contest Booklet, etc. Works with the Convergence Publications
Coordinator to provide MISFITS information for emails, PRs and
convention materials.
