The CONvergence positions up for election in
January of 2008 are listed below - alphabetical by position

candidates.
CONvergence
Coordinators
Communications Coordinator: Responsible for agenda,
minutes and attendance at all CVG Coordinator meetings, and convention committee meetings. Oversees departments
related to communications including photography, videography,
registration, volunteers, web page, and IT.
Candidate: Windy Bowlsby
I
have been involved with CONvergence and MISFITS since
they were merely a twinkle in a fan's eye. My
involvement happened because I believed passionately
that there could be a place that welcomed every type of
fandom, and that this place could be run using a more
business-like, transparent model. I'm proud to say that
the organization I (along with many many others) helped
create has lived up to those ideals.
While CONvergence and MISFITS have grown considerably in
the last decade, so have my skills, and I'm proud of
both organizations and the role I've played in shaping
them. I will continue to advocate for change and growth
and for exploring new ways to accomplish our goals,
while simultaneously keeping an eye on our policies, our
traditions, and our philosophy of what we're all about.
The
Society and the convention are approaching a major
transition point - three of the seven founding CVG
Coordinators are stepping down within the next two
years, one of which is the Finance Coordinator. The
Finance Coordinator's roles and responsibilities are
closely tied to my role of Communications Coordinator,
with much overlapping of information and responsibility.
Because the Finance role is responsible for legal and
budgetary responsibilities, I seek to remain in my
position for another term to assist the new Finance
Coordinator. Additionally, I believe my institutional
memory as Administrator and minutes-keeper will be key
in assisting through the first transitions of the
founding convention Coordinators.
It's
an exciting time for both The Society and CONvergence as
we transition to a new stage of growth and identity. I
hope that you will trust me with one more term through
this time of transition, but whatever happens - I am
excited that this creation of ours has fostered such
passion, imagination, and talent.
Candidate:
Ann Roubik
I
have been involved with CONvergence since the first
year. I started in Programming as a subhead, and moved
into Ops, where I've been heavily involved in developing
recruiting and training for one of the most
volunteer-intensive at-con departments. I work
collaboratively with my partners in Ops and with
whatever departments we come in contact with an eye
toward constant improvement - what are we doing right,
and where can we make improvement. I think this is a
terrific organization, and one of the successes of this
group has been to strive continuously improve. I hope to
be able be able to give back with what skills I have
from the work I've done with CONvergence and my
organizational skills from outside, and hopefully bring
a fresh perspective.
I
thank you for your consideration.
Community Relations
Coordinator: Responsible for soliciting and arranging guests to the CONvergence convention, including transportation. Also responsible for "at convention" fundraising. Oversees departments related to guests and fundraising including all guest coordinators, guest liaisons and silent auction.
Candidate: Perrin Klumpp
Though running unopposed, I think it is still important
to answer two big questions; why vote for me and what
are my plans for the next two years?
I
feel that I am worthy of your vote because of the
expertise I bring in activities and travel planning for
the guests of the convention. It is a difficult task
managing the conflicting schedules, arrival and
departure needs of the guests in way that satisfies both
the guests and the needs of the convention and I feel
that I have achieved success in balancing these needs.
I
also believe that I bring to this position a variety of
contacts and relationships with past guests and possible
future guests that will benefit the convention. I have
the skills and personality to work with guests, to
convince them to attend and be willing to return in the
future. This requires the ability to approach anyone, at
any time about being a Guest of Honor, while maintaining
the professionalism to not sour the guest on the
prospect.
This
brings me to what my plans are for the next two years. A
significant challenge in 2009 will be avoiding letdown
from this year’s extravaganza. I will make sure of an
enthusiastic group of guests to keep the convention
lively. I also plan to continue the increasing
interaction and planning between programming, video and
others to make the interactions smoother and easier for
everyone. I also want to work on finding guests who can
join us for more than just the convention such as
Bridget Landry who came out last April as part of
MISFITS “In the Schools” program.
I am
enthusiastic about the prospects for the next two years
and appreciate the chance to work for you as a
CONvergence Coordinator and Society Regent.
Events Coordinator: Responsible for "at convention" events including all programming,
mainstage events, movies, CoF2E2, Connie's Space Lounge, Consuite and music.
Candidate: Michael Lee
I
have been involved with the MISFITS organization since
before the first CONvergence, and have been involved in
other fan organizations and conventions as well before
that. I've worked for both the year-around MISFITS side
of the organization and the CONvergence side throughout
the years, including what I consider a successful run as
head for Programming in the Events Division for five
years. I've given a lot of thought over the years about
how the organization adapts and changes as the people
who conceived of the organization move on from their
current roles. I've got experience relevant both for the
events division particularly, as one of seven
CONvergence coordinators, and as one of twelve regents
for the entire organization.
I
was a part of the first full transition in the
programming department as part of the second team
running programming, and because of all of this I would
be honored to be chosen as the second events division
coordinator.
Candidate:
Jon Olsen
As a
part of the Connie's Space Lounge team since its
earliest days, I've tried to develop team building as a
value and a skill. I think honing and promoting that
kind of skill in this environment is a desirable quality
in an Events Coordinator. I know how to encourage ideas,
and work from ideas toward action. CONvergence will grow
by making good ideas possible--as much it ever could
grow through attendance increases. My priority is going
to be on supporting and always refining what it means to
pull together and sustain a great convention.
I
have experience as a manager of projects and people.
I've practiced leadership in the CONvergence community,
but also in places like my day job. I work for a company
that trains other organizations in retaining and
building the capacity of their people. I've put in
eleven years working in professional and
volunteer/community theater, where I've had to
collaborate, compromise, juggle and lead all kinds of
personalities to create successful events for paying
audiences.
I
value keeping hands off things that work, while freely
asking probing questions, or making firm decisions. I
feel at home in environments that have restlessness for
the new, yet want to preserve valuable traditions; I'm
not afraid to say "no" or "yes" in the face of either
impulse. So I try to be respectful, yet I think you'll
almost never hear me defend something just because "we
always do it that way!"
I
have a great passion for collaboration and for the
future. I hope that these passions, along with my skills
and experience, will lead you to trust me with this
responsibility. Thanks!
