Bond-a-thon
To honor the passing of
Desmond Llewelyn, the
MISFITS book movie club held a Bond-a-Thon on Saturday, February
26th, 2000. We showed a film starring each of the four major
Bonds (sorry George).

Goldfinger
3:00 PMMany
would say this is the best of the Sean Connery Bonds. It
is certainly indicative of his tenure as Bond. Good
action sequences throughout, but also good development
of the villain as well. Also features the best of all
evil henchmen - Odd Job and his razor sharp hat. Not
much Q time, but he's there. |

|
The Man With the Golden Gun
5:30 PMProbably
one of the three best Roger Moore movies (The best would
be
Live and Let Die,
but Q isn't in that one - second best would be
For Your Eyes Only
). Especially notable for the appearance of
Hervé Villechaize
who went on to fame as Tattoo on
Fantasy Island (The
plane Bond, the plane). Q also appears only briefly in
this film, but he really never got a lot of screen time
until
License to Kill. |

License to Kill
8:00 PMIf you
are doing a Bond-a-thon to honor Desmond Llewelyn,
this movie is a must.
License to Kill
takes Q out of the lab and puts him in the field with
007. You can really see a sort of paternal affection for
Bond. In the humble opinion of the author, this movie
features the best Bond girl ever. Why James didn't
settle down and marry her is a mystery no-one will ever
unravel (and don't tell me that it's just because he's
Bond).
Timothy Dalton gets
a bad rap for his Bond, who was the most serious of the
four, but his films are easily two of the stronger
entries into the Bond pantheon. |

Tomorrow Never Dies
10:30 PMLots of
explosions, limited story, a kind of lame villain that
is indicative of the later Bonds, but a GREAT Bond girl!
This is not the last appearance of Desmond Llewelyn,
but his screen time in this film is better than his time
in
The World is not Enough,
which seemed more devoted to introducing R than it was
to paying homage to Q. |
