Geek Partnership
Society (GPS) Name Change FAQ
What exactly is
changing?
We're changing our name. What MISFITS was and what we've
done up to now won't change. It will expand in the
coming months and years, but we're not leaving anything
or anyone behind.
Why is a new name
necessary?
We're branching
out beyond the science fiction and fantasy realms and
into a broader array of geekiness. The new name better
reflects our goals, is easy to remember*
and will will help us take these first steps into a
larger world. It is new and fresh; and it is instantly
recognized.

POP QUIZ: How many of you know, without looking it up,
what MISFITS stands for?
How will I reach the
Staff & Board?
Everyone you have grown to know is still here. All
emails sent to MISFITS accounts will be redirected to
the new domain's accounts in the event you forget to
change your address book. The phone number is still the
same as well as the fax number and mailing address. We
haven't (yet) moved! We are here and ready to assist you
when you need us.
How was the
community consulted?
We held a public forum on November 21, 2009 where we
discussed the mission of the organization, and ideas
about the name change were taken from the people in
attendance. We've also met with our volunteers on
November 17, 2009 and listened to their ideas−there was
no shortage of creativity.
But I hate the new
name. It's stupid.
Of course, not everybody will love it. We believe the
new name reflects who we are (geeks of many varying
stripes), how we operate (working together with
individuals and organizations to make Nifty Stuff
Happen), and what we are as an organization (a society
of people). What cinched the deal for us came when we
dropped the proposed name into Google and our existing
misfit.org website was right there on the first page. A
sign? You decide.
Who do I contact if
I have further questions?
You can reach any Director, or simply email us as
info@misfit.org as always.
